On Tuesday July 12 we (Jay, Jeff, John, Josh and Jullian) canoed over to Otter Island in the afternoon as part of the Scotia Jam Activities. We had packed our backpacks for an overnight stay. Venturer Groups from Oshawa and Halifax made the trip with us. About 2 in the afternoon we paddled up to the island. It's only about a 1 1/2 km from the camp. There was a slight bit of rain but we had the wind with us so it didn't take very long getting there. After finding a site and setting up the tents most of the guys had a nap. Lately on around 6 the two activity leaders gave a talk on canoeing but there was too much wind to go back on the water so we sat around with the Venturers from Halifax and Jay and some of them walked around the Island. John started a campfire and we burnt a lot of wood from a windfall of old dry spruces and the area cleaned up well for us.

Everybody crashed before 10 with Jullian sleeping in the small 4 x 6 tent and the rest of the guys squeezing into John's 4 man tent. The next morning after breakfast we went for a canoe trip around the island before picking up our gear and heading for back. The wind was at our backs going back to camp so the canoeing was easy again.
