We arrived at Mira Provincial Park on Monday,March 28th around 11:00 am. Venturers Chris, John, Grant, Graham, Gilliam, and Josh and miniventurer Kyler were out to learn how to use GPS (correctly}. Scouter Rick and Venturer Advisor Gerald were out to teach us and to do this we used an organization called geocache, which has little caches of goodies stored around various places, which you need a GPS to find since you are given the coordinates of the caches. Due to the nature of the GPS's we were only able to use them to about a 3 metre radius of accuracy. From there we had to search manually, with some of the caches hidden in clumps of trees so they were hard to find. For the most part we took nothing out of these caches and left nothing. One item we took was a biner for Ricky and we all chipped in a dollar to put back in the cache (You don't simply take stuff out of it, you have to replace it with something else.) We found a total of 4 caches that day and walked about 5 kilometres but we got well accustomed on how to plot waypoints with GPS's and follow them to our destination.
