Some of our Venturers Company took an overnight hike to the Eastbay Hills on Nov 19 and 20. Around 9:30 we headed up the hill on our way. It was an old rocky roadway with a stream of water running down the middle in some spots and 2 streams of water in other parts. We were surronded by mostly fir and hardwood and our view of East Bay was blocked by the trees. It had been cold overnight and most of the puddles had at least 6 mm of ice on them. By 10:30 we were at the top the plateau and we had to bypass a lot of ponds on the road. At one spot we had to cross over a small brook on a board and this was where Jay found out it was tough "walking on water" and so his feet got a little wet. We kept on at a steady pace and by 11:30 we were on wide machine road that was being use to haul pulp out of the area. Our maps had shown a trail and not a road as wide as this one. There were a lot of men cutting trees in this area. Finally around 12:30 we passed the ravine and stop a while for lunch. By this time we had travelled over 7 km. After lunch we hiked another 4 km and started looking around for somwhere to set up our tents. There wasn't much to pick from so we set 2 tents up close to the road and 2 a bit further back off the road. After setting up we gather some wood and made a campfire over which we cook our suppers. Most people had taken sausage or hotdogs so there was lots of grease to help the fire. Darkness came about 5:30 so we hung around the fire telling jokes till about 7:00 when Grant, Jullian and Jay decided to retire for the night with John staying around till about 8 and Rick and Gerald hung in till about 9. The night was a bit on the cold side with the 2 one litres of water that Rick had frooze up completely. The next morning most of us crawl out off our frost whiten tents by 8 and started the campfire again to cook some breakfast on. At about 9:50 we headed back on the road to the old Big Pond Fire Station lot where our drives picked us up
